Macaronesian heath

Description (English)

Shrubby vegetation on thin soils in the Azores, Madeira and Canary Islands, colonising pyroclastic debris, lava, rock outcrops and landslips, sometimes cyclically renewed by further disturbance or seral to forest. Floristically diverse between and within the archipelagoes.
