Local Fagus sylvatica forests of the tree-limit in the upper montane or subalpine level of the high Dinarides, with extremely limited outliers in the southeastern Alps, not forming a clear belt, contrary to more western formations of the Aceri-Fagion, though, like them, characterized by the frequent admixture of Acer pseudoplatanus in the canopy and of Adenostyletalia megaphorb species in the understorey. Acer heldreichii, Sorbus chamaemespilus, Salix appendiculata, Myrrhis odorata, Cicerbita alpina, Aconitum paniculatum, Chaerophyllum hirsutum, Petasites albus, Stellaria nemorum are noteworthy accompaniers.
