Steppe Quercus forests
Description (English)
Xero-thermophile oak woods of continental affinities of the wooded steppe zone of Pannonia and the Ponto-Sarmatic region, and their irradiations into regions or sites of high local continentality west and north of the Ponto-Pannonic region. The substrate consists of 'Loess' (Chernozem soils). Different Quercus spp. dominate in the tree layer, which is rich in continental steppic vegetation elements and geophytes of the Aceri tatarici-Quercion and Potentillo albae-Quercion, e.g. Carex michelii, Dactylis polygama, Geum urbanum, Lathryrus niger, Polygonatum latifolium, Pulmonaria mollis ssp. mollis, Tanacetum corymbosum, Vincetoxicum hirundinaria, Convallaria majalis, Dictamnus albus, Festuca rupicola and Potentilla alba.
