Serpentine Abies alba forests

Description (English)

Abies alba- and Picea abies-dominated forests on serpentines, usually at altitude 1400-1600 m in the Balkan peninsula. Erica carnea is also relatively abundant. Other typical species are Vaccinium myrtillus, Festuca heterophylla, Daphne blagayana, Thymus montanus, Saxifraga rotundifolia, Valeriana montana, Doronicum austriacum, Campanula rotundifolia, Luzula sylvatica, Luzula nemorosa, Senecio nemorensis, Melampyrum album, Sorbus aucuparia, Hypericum perforatum, Luzula maxima, Oxalis acetosella, Symphytum tuberosum, Euphorbia amygdaloides, Pyrola secunda.
