Barren Tethyan lava flows

Description (English)

Lava flows, fields, dykes, necks, domes, cones of the volcanoes of the Mediterranean Basin and of western Asia, unvegetated, occupied by usually discontinuous communities dominated by algae, lichens, notably Stereocaulon vesubianum, or mosses, sometimes colonized by very sparse vascular plants.
