Pinus brutia forests
Description (English)
Pinus brutia forests of Crete, the eastern Aegean islands, extreme southeastern continental Europe, Anatolia, Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean coastal regions not on coastal dunes (otherwise see unit B1.71). Eastern vicariants of Aleppo pine forests (unit G3.74), they comprise, however, taller, more luxuriant, and often extensive, formations. Disjunct formations of this pine or of related species, described from Crimea and the Caucasian region (Pinus pityusa, Pinus stankewiczii, Pinus eldarica) have been included.
