Description ( English )
[Castanea sativa]-dominated forests and naturalised plantations of the [Carpinion betuli illyricum] zone, locally, notably in Bosnia-Herzegovina, extending into the [Fagion illyricum] zone, apparently constituting, with the subthermophilous oak region of the Balkans, a centre of indigenousness of the species. Extensive stands are recorded, in particular, from northwestern Croatia, neighbouring Slovenia, northern, central and eastern Bosnia-Herzegovina.
