Baetic garrigues

English name: Baetic garrigues

Description (English)

Varied calcicolous formations of Baetic hills of southern Spain; they may be dominated by any of a number of characteristic species of the class, and in particular by Thymus capitatus, Teucrium polium, Helianthemum hirtum, Phlomis purpurea ssp. purpurea or Ulex parviflorus ssp. willkommii; they occur locally throughout the entire Baetic area. A few communities, remarkable for the dominance of less widespread, often endemic, usually striking species, and, in many cases, for their adaptation to non-calcareous soils or to outlying areas, have been listed separately.
