Sarmatic ash-alder woods
Description (English)
Riverine forests of slow and even-flowing, large or small, lowland streams of Sarmatic Eastern Europe, in the basins of the Dniepr, the Don and the Volga-Kama, dominated by Fraxinus excelsior and Alnus glutinosa, with Prunus padus, sometimes with Betula spp. and Picea abies, with a rich undergrowth of tall herbs and shrubs, including Urtica dioica, Filipendula ulmaria, Lysimachia vulgaris.
