Description (English)

Riverine gallery forests of the Pannonic region, characteristic of the Danube basin, north to the lower Morava, of the Tisza basin and of the Danube-Tisza interfluve. They are dominated by Quercus robur and Fraxinus angustifolia ssp. pannonica, sometimes with Ulmus laevis, Alnus glutinosa, Carpinus betulus and, in the wettest parts, Populus alba. The shrub layer includes Acer campestre, Acer tataricum, Cornus sanguinea, Crataegus monogyna, Corylus avellana, Ulmus minor. The herb layer is dominated by Carex acutiformis, Carex elata, Carex riparia, Urtica dioica, Urtica kioviensis in the wetter belt ("Fraxino pannonicae-Alnetum"), by Deschampsia cespitosa, Veratrum album, Polygonatum latifolium, Symphytum officinale otherwise.
