Mediterranean circalittoral rock
Description (English)
Circalittoral rock is characterised by sciaphilic (shade-loving, that grow only in shady habitats) algae dominated communities (in contrast to photophilic algal communities of the infralittoral zone). The depth at which the circalittoral zone begins is directly dependent on the intensity of light reaching the seabed; in highly turbid conditions, the circalittoral zone may occur in shallow water.
