Summary
Lower infralittoral rock in the Black Sea occurs between depths of 10 and 18m. These areas are low energy and poorly illuminated which limits the species suited to the situation. Barren lower infralittoral rock in these areas are devoid of species and communities. It is still unclear what are the causes.
There are no commonly agreed indicators of quality for this habitat, although particular parameters may have been set in certain situations e.g. protected features within Natura 2000 sites, where reference values have been determined and applied on a location-specific basis.
Due to the barren nature of this habitat no characteristic species are present.
