Species-rich Nardus grasslands, on silicious substrates in mountain areas (and submountain areas in Continental Europe)
Description (English)
Closed, dry or mesophile, perennial Nardus grasslands occupying siliceous soils in Atlantic or sub-Atlantic or boreal lowland, hill and montane regions of middle and northern Europe and western Iberia. Vegetation highly varied, but the variation is characterised by continuity. Nardetalia: Pal. 35.1-Violo-Nardion (Nardo-Galion saxatilis, Violion caninae); Pal. 36.31- Nardion.
Species-rich sites should be interpreted as sites which are remarkable for a high number of species. In general, the habitats which have become irreversibly degraded through overgrazing should be excluded.

Conservation status
EU conservation status
Conservation status assesses every six years and for each biogeographical region the condition of habitats and species compared to the favourable status as described in the Habitats Directive. The map shows the 2013-2018 assessments as reported by EU Member State. Assessments are further detailed in the summary document available behind the link below.
